Filter Replacement Service

Filters are the most important consumable for suction machines. The correct filter protects the user and prevents liquid or bacteria from contaminating the machine interior.

Why Is Filter Replacement So Important?

Suction machines have two main types of filters, each with a different function:

Bacterial Filter

Blocks bacteria and viruses from entering the machine. Must be replaced between different users. Must be replaced after 2 months of use. Cannot be washed and reused.

Consequence: Not replacing may lead to cross-contamination and internal machine pollution.

Hydrophobic Filter

Prevents liquid from entering the pump. Once wet, airflow is blocked. Drive DeVilbiss explicitly states: "A wet hydrophobic filter will stop airflow."

Consequence: Not replacing after wetting = complete suction loss. Cannot be blow-dried or washed for reuse.

When to Replace

  • Every 2 months (per Drive DeVilbiss recommendation)
  • Between different users (bacterial filter mandatory)
  • Immediately after overflow (both filter types)
  • Immediately after hydrophobic filter gets wet
  • When you notice suction dropping — replace filters first

FAQ

Can I use a different brand's filter?

Not recommended. Different brands may have different sizes, filtration grades and fittings. Drive DeVilbiss explicitly warns: "substitutes may lead to contamination or poor performance." Use genuine or verified-compatible parts.

Can I blow-dry a wet hydrophobic filter?

Absolutely not. Once wet, the filter membrane's micropore structure has changed — even if it looks dry, its waterproofing performance cannot be restored. Replace with a new one.

How can I tell the filter needs replacing?

Signs include: noticeable suction drop, change in machine operating sound, visible filter discolouration or contamination, more than 2 months since last replacement. When in doubt, replacing is the safest choice.
