Why Is Filter Replacement So Important?
Suction machines have two main types of filters, each with a different function:
Bacterial Filter
Blocks bacteria and viruses from entering the machine. Must be replaced between different users. Must be replaced after 2 months of use. Cannot be washed and reused.
Consequence: Not replacing may lead to cross-contamination and internal machine pollution.
Hydrophobic Filter
Prevents liquid from entering the pump. Once wet, airflow is blocked. Drive DeVilbiss explicitly states: "A wet hydrophobic filter will stop airflow."
Consequence: Not replacing after wetting = complete suction loss. Cannot be blow-dried or washed for reuse.
Filter Specifications by Model
| Model | Bacterial Filter | Hydrophobic Filter | Notes |

| ASKIR 36 BR | Bacterial-hydrophobic filter | (Combined design) | SP 0121 |
| ASKIR 30 PROXIMITY | Bacterial-hydrophobic filter | (Combined design) | Similar to ASKIR 230 |
| VACUAIDE 7325P | Built-in cartridge (800ml) / external (1200ml) | Built into collection jar | 800ml disposable jar includes built-in filter |
| ACCUVAC Basic/Rescue | Hydrophobic filter | Hydrophobic filter | Weinmann proprietary |
When to Replace
- Every 2 months (per Drive DeVilbiss recommendation)
- Between different users (bacterial filter mandatory)
- Immediately after overflow (both filter types)
- Immediately after hydrophobic filter gets wet
- When you notice suction dropping — replace filters first
FAQ
Not recommended. Different brands may have different sizes, filtration grades and fittings. Drive DeVilbiss explicitly warns: "substitutes may lead to contamination or poor performance." Use genuine or verified-compatible parts.
Absolutely not. Once wet, the filter membrane's micropore structure has changed — even if it looks dry, its waterproofing performance cannot be restored. Replace with a new one.
Signs include: noticeable suction drop, change in machine operating sound, visible filter discolouration or contamination, more than 2 months since last replacement. When in doubt, replacing is the safest choice.
