Troubleshooting Steps (Follow This Order)
Check the Hydrophobic Filter
This is the most common cause of suction loss. When the hydrophobic filter gets wet, it blocks airflow, causing suction to stop or drop significantly. Drive DeVilbiss explicitly states: "A wet hydrophobic filter will stop airflow." Remove the filter and check if it is wet or discoloured. If so, replace it immediately with a new one. Do not attempt to blow-dry or wash and reuse.
Solution: Replace with a new hydrophobic filter → Filter Accessories
Check the Tubing
The ATMOS manual lists "kinked tubing" as a common cause of suction loss. Inspect the entire tubing for: kinks, cracks, contamination or air leaks. Aged tubing becomes hard and brittle, cracking more easily.
Solution: Replace with new tubing → Tubing Accessories
Check the Collection Jar
An overfull jar reduces suction. Check if the jar is near capacity. Also inspect the lid gasket — a poor seal causes air leaks.
Solution: Empty the jar and check the gasket seal
Check the Connections
Are all tubing-to-machine connections secure and sealed? Is the connector loose or damaged? An incorrectly sized connector causes air leaks.
Solution: Reconnect and confirm seal; replace connector if needed → Connector Accessories
Professional Inspection
If suction is still weak after the above steps, the pump may be worn or there may be an internal mechanical issue. A qualified technician should inspect the unit.
Solution: Book a suction pressure test or repair service
Suction Specifications by Model
If your machine cannot reach these specs, performance is below standard:
| Model | Standard Max Vacuum | Standard Airflow |
|---|---|---|
| ATMOS LC27 | -73 kPa | 27 L/min |
| ASKIR 230 | -75 kPa | 16 L/min |
| ASKIR 36 BR | -80 kPa | 36 L/min |
| VACUAIDE 7325P | -550 mmHg | 27 LPM |
FAQ
Check if you replaced both the bacterial filter and the hydrophobic filter. Some models have two separate filters. Also inspect tubing and connections.
Low battery charge can reduce suction. Fully charge first, then test. If still weaker at full charge, the battery may be degraded and need replacement.
Weak suction on a new machine is usually an assembly issue: filter not installed correctly, tubing not properly connected, or jar not sealed. Reassemble following the manual.
