Accessory Categories & Expert Notes

Bacterial Filters

Block bacteria and viruses from entering the machine, protecting the pump and user safety. Must be replaced between different users and cannot be washed for reuse. If the filter gets wet from liquid, it must be replaced immediately.

Replace when: Between users, after overflow, every 2 months (whichever comes first)

Compatible with: All powered suction machine models

Hydrophobic Filters

Prevent liquid from entering the pump interior. This is the machine's last line of defence. Once wet, airflow is blocked and suction may stop completely. Drive DeVilbiss states: "A wet hydrophobic filter will stop airflow and must be replaced." Do not attempt to blow-dry or wash for reuse.

Replace when: Immediately when wet, after overflow, when suction suddenly drops

Important: Using improvised substitutes may cause contamination or performance degradation

Suction Tubing

Connects the machine to the suction catheter. Check before each use for cracks, kinks, contamination or poor connections. Tubing is one of the most important replacement accessory categories. ATMOS lists "kinked tubing" as a common cause of suction loss.

Replace when: Cracks/contamination found, rental return, periodic replacement

Note: Different models use different tubing diameters (Ø 6/10mm, Ø 8/14mm)

Collection Jars / Canisters

Containers for collecting secretions. Available in disposable and reusable types. Disposable types are discarded after use — hygienic and convenient. Reusable types require heat disinfection or autoclaving. CA-MI models typically support both reusable jars and disposable systems.

Reusable: Disinfect after each use, regularly check seal rings

Flovac Disposable Collection System

CA-MI's single-use collection system including disposable liners and a reusable canister. Secretions collect in the disposable liner, which is discarded after use. Greatly reduces cleaning burden. Ideal for care homes, shared environments or high-hygiene scenarios. Compatible with ASKIR 230, ASKIR 36 BR, ASKIR 30 PROXIMITY.

Accessories FAQ

Can I mix accessories from different brands?

Not recommended. Different brands have different specifications (diameter, interface, filtration grade). Using incompatible accessories may cause air leaks, insufficient suction or hygiene risks. Drive DeVilbiss states: "Substitutes may cause contamination or poor performance." Use original or confirmed-compatible parts.

Can hydrophobic filters be washed and reused?

No. Once wet, hydrophobic filters lose their water-blocking function. Even after washing or drying, the membrane's micropore structure may be damaged. All major brands explicitly state hydrophobic filters must be replaced when wet — never reused.

Can ASKIR 230 and ASKIR 36 BR tubing be swapped?

No. ASKIR 230 uses Ø 6/10 mm silicone tubing, while ASKIR 36 BR uses Ø 8/14 mm. Different diameters, not interchangeable. Similarly, their connectors are different sizes (230 uses Ø 8/9/10 mm, 36 BR uses Ø 10/11/12 mm). Always confirm your model before purchase.

Is the Flovac system compatible with all CA-MI models?

Flovac is compatible with ASKIR 230/12VBR, ASKIR 36 BR, ASKIR 30 PROXIMITY and NEW ASPIRET. However, the disposable bag kit configuration differs between models — ASKIR 36 BR uses a different kit from ASKIR 230/PROXIMITY. Confirm compatibility before purchase.

How do I know when my machine needs replacement parts?

Watch for: (1) noticeable suction drop; (2) abnormal operating sounds; (3) visible tubing cracks or discolouration; (4) poor jar sealing; (5) air leaks at connections. Suggested schedule: filters every 2 months, tubing every 3-6 months, jar seal rings checked every 6-12 months.
